Electric & Electronic Market Updates

May has been relatively stable compared to the turbulence of recent months. Active is still seeing upwards price pressure in some key categories, e.g. ICs and crystal oscillators, but other product categories have stabilised. The commodities bull market appears to be tapering off, and prices have eased somewhat. Copper is off its recent high albeit at a high plateau relative to the past few years. Similar patterns can be seen in other key metals such as tin and nickel.

Demand is still strong market-wide, although many factories have pushed back production schedules due to long lead times. Shipping and lead time delays are still making it difficult for purchasing managers to secure the resources they need to keep production at full capacity.

The currency markets are fairly stable with the NZD and USD pair trading in a narrow range throughout May. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies crashed down from all-time highs. The performance of cryptocurrencies does not appear to affect broader markets at this stage.
